As a full contact sport, training for MMA requires a certain amount of equipment to get started. This is required for safety, to protect yourself during training sessions.
Mouthguard – possibly the most important item on the list, the mouthguard is there to protect your teeth while competing and training. It is a good habit to wear a mouthguard while conditioning to get use to wearing one. I’d recommend investing in a custom made one eventually, but in the meantime it is probably not neccessary for beginners.
Cup – on the other hand, many would say this is the most important piece of protective gear. Say no more.
Training Gloves – are essential for comfort and safety. As a MMA fighter, you need a good fitting pair of gloves to protect what most think of as their most important weapons.
Rashguard – much more comfortable than a t-shirt that stretches and hangs off your body. Rashguards wick away sweat and form to your body. Essential for ground work and those who spend a lot of time on the mat when training or fighting.
Fight Shorts – are better constructed than standard gym shorts and usually have split seams for better mobility and execution of MMA techniques.
